Three days in Nanjing give the lake, museum and Qinhuai waterfront room to become separate experiences. Begin with Xuanwu Lake in the north, protect your museum booking on the second day, and leave the third for riverside streets. Treat this as a flexible sequence: move the museum if it falls on Monday and use an indoor visit when rain changes your plans. One main destination per day leaves space for transport, meals and pauses. You will usually remember a few places explored carefully more clearly than a long checklist completed at speed.
Arrival: check the station on your ticket
Nanjing Railway Station and Nanjing South Railway Station are different arrival points. Save the complete station name alongside your hotel address before travelling, and build your transfer around the station printed on your booking. Shangri-La Nanjing's directions identify Xinmofan Road on metro Line 1, Exit 1, for reaching the property. Its approximately forty-five-minute airport car journey is an estimate rather than a promise covering traffic and waiting. Leave room for baggage collection and finding your transport before arranging a fixed restaurant booking on arrival day.
A practical hotel near the lake
Shangri-La Nanjing stands at 329 Zhongyang Road in Gulou. Its position is worth considering if you intend to begin around Xuanwu Lake. The operator lists check-in from 14:00 and checkout at noon. If your train arrives earlier, ask about luggage storage instead of assuming that your room will immediately be available. Read the particular room category, breakfast terms and cancellation conditions before paying. A hotel address does not establish the view from every room. Think about the final walk with luggage and your evening return as well as the straight-line distance to attractions.
First day: an easy introduction to Xuanwu Lake
The Xuanwu Lake administrative office describes five islets, Lovers Garden and the surrounding lake road, and lists ordinary park admission as free. Begin with the entrance map and choose a manageable walk that returns to a convenient exit. The historic city wall lies west of the lake, placing older masonry and modern city buildings within the same wider landscape. Make space to sit beside the water. A quiet first afternoon is useful after a long journey, particularly if you want enough energy to concentrate on museum collections the next morning.

Choosing a route among the islets
Names such as Huanzhou, Yingzhou and Liangzhou help divide the map into understandable sections. You do not need to cross every connection on the same visit. Decide where to turn back before fatigue makes that choice for you, and identify your exit before moving farther from the shore. Flowers and foliage vary with season, so enjoy what is present rather than expecting a photograph taken in another month to match your visit. Free park admission does not establish the price of boats, vehicles or special events. Check the day's boarding point, weather arrangements and return time before committing to an optional boat trip.

Between the lake and the city
Look at the relationship between the wall and surrounding rooftops as you return toward the city. A raised viewpoint reveals a different arrangement from the waterside paths. The photograph looking from Jiming dates to 2009; it does not establish current access to that viewpoint. Follow present entrance signs when choosing your route.

Looking closely at the city wall
Treat the wall as separate places to explore rather than one continuously accessible attraction. Viewing masonry from outside and entering a ticketed section are different activities. Check the entrance, exit and closing time of your chosen section locally. Pause to notice the stonework, gateways and relationship between structures and their surroundings. The 2009 photographs show the area as it appeared then.

Second day: Nanjing Museum
Nanjing Museum's current homepage lists normal opening Tuesday to Sunday from 09:00 to 17:00, with last entry at 16:00. Monday is normally closed, with public-holiday exceptions; Lunar New Year's Eve and the first day of the lunar year are also listed as closures. Read the dated announcement covering your visit before finalising arrangements. The museum directs metro travellers to Minggugong on Line 2, Exit 1, followed by approximately three hundred metres east. Arrive comfortably before the entry cutoff so that finding the entrance and passing security do not consume your remaining visit.
The official reservation link directs visitors to WeChat. Ask the museum in advance how your foreign passport will be checked rather than assuming that instructions written for another identification document apply to you. Use the official booking route, and resolve any eligibility or document question before travelling across town. Inside, select two areas that interest you rather than hurrying through every gallery. Comparing several objects and reading their labels can be more rewarding than photographing entire rooms. Temporary exhibitions have their own dates, so check the end date separately if a particular show is the reason for your visit.
A main meal at Jiangnan Wok
Jiangnan Wok, on the hotel's first level, highlights Crispy Braised Veal among its signature dishes. Ask about portion size and suitable rice and vegetable accompaniments when planning a shared meal. Lunch operates 11:00–14:00 and dinner 17:00–21:30; the stated dress code is smart casual. Jiangnan Wok · Yun is a separate restaurant in the same hotel, so match both the name and location when reserving. Confirm current prices, ingredients and allergens with the restaurant. Putting this meal after the lake walk avoids returning north for lunch in the middle of your museum visit.
Third day: Qinhuai streets and an unhurried departure
The city's tourism guide introduces the Qinhuai area through its bridges, waterfront and historic architecture. Give the streets around Gongyuan Street their own walking time, and distinguish a stroll outside from admission to a temple hall or a boat excursion. Check the current tariff for whichever service you actually choose; older promotional prices should not determine your budget. A shorter walk and a seated meal may be enough on departure day. Allow separately for returning to your luggage, travelling to the correct station and finding the platform. That margin lets your last impression of Nanjing be the river and streets rather than a rushed transfer.
