Richland's riverfront and the people behind Hanford
Building a Richland, Washington visit around a single reactor building can hide the city's wider story. The official Visit Tri-Cities heritage route introduces planned neighbourhoods, Alphabet Homes, Howard Amon Park and civic spaces together. Everyday urban life and Hanford's industrial history can be explored in the same context, but walking through town does not provide independent access to facilities behind a security boundary. This guide suggests a Richland day beginning at the visitor centre, then adapting to available public places and the current programme schedule.

Its five photographs come from the NPS community-programme archive: a cycling group, walkers, a town tour, a peace bell and a library presentation. They do not guarantee participation in the same activity today. No private information about the people shown has been inferred from their appearance. An archive photograph cannot serve as a tour reservation; consult the actual programme announcement. Consider displaced communities and the consequences of war alongside the technical story. That produces a more balanced visit than treating the city only as an example of industrial achievement.
Start at 2000 Logston Boulevard
The Hanford Visitor Center is at 2000 Logston Boulevard, Richland, WA 99354. Current NPS information lists Monday–Friday 9 am–4 pm, closed weekends, with an additional Wednesday closure from 11 am to noon. Keep that midday interval in your plan. The riverfront and visitor centre are separate destinations. Enter the centre's complete address rather than simply navigating to Hanford and approaching a facility gate. Compare any tour meeting instructions with your booking information because not every activity necessarily begins in the same place.
Ask about current visiting options, independently accessible public areas and programme locations before setting off. Arrange the return if arriving by taxi or public transport. A hotel's airport service does not imply transport for a Hanford tour. When combining a city visit with a longer outdoor walk, include the time needed to return to your starting point. Saving a location on your phone can help, but current staff instructions should settle the final arrangement. Seeing a gate or entrance in a photograph does not demonstrate permission for independent entry.
B Reactor is closed: plan around that fact
The current NPS Hanford tour explanation states that B Reactor is closed to public access during roof replacement and preservation work. Historic properties behind the security boundary can only be visited through an authorised Department of Energy tour. The Pre-WWII Historic Facilities tour is a separate programme, not a B Reactor interior tour. The announcement describes an opportunity to see the reactor from a distance. Do not treat a tour as a confirmed part of your day before checking availability, conditions and meeting instructions.
Do not search for alternative side roads or gates to reach a facility. Keep public city walking and entry to the secured reservation distinct. A virtual presentation offered through the centre or park website can provide an alternative way to learn about an unavailable interior. Consider your companions' time as well as their interests; not everyone wants to spend equally long on technical detail. Begin with a short shared introduction, then investigate individual questions. An older reactor photograph cannot establish present access, and this guide does not promise an operating interior tour.
Walking, cycling and reading the planned city
The cycling image shows a ranger in front with participants behind, while the walking photograph shows a group assembling in an open landscape. These represent different activities. Before joining a cycling programme, check distance, equipment and meeting time. Do not assume a bicycle will be provided if you arrive without one. An open-country hike should not automatically be treated as an easy town stroll. Carry water, choose clothing for the forecast and plan breaks at a pace suited to your group. The sunshine in the archive is not a weather prediction for your travel date.

The city-tour photograph shows a ranger and visitors in a tree-lined public setting, not an invitation to enter private gardens. When exploring residential heritage such as Alphabet Homes, remain on public routes; a house's historical interest does not make its interior open to visitors. Compare street arrangements, the relationship between homes and shared spaces. Rather than forcing every feature into a technical explanation, consider how daily life was organised. This connects industrial history with ordinary community experience instead of reducing the visit to pictures of large production structures.
A peace bell, a presentation and today's calendar
The Lights for Peace bell-ringing image belongs to a setting of remembrance and reflection on the atomic bombings of Japan. The library photograph records an NPS activities presentation at Richland Public Library. Neither image proves that the same talk is taking place today or that the bell is available as a daily attraction. Use the park calendar to check dates, locations and participation arrangements. If attending a remembrance event, approach it with regard for its subject rather than expecting a conventional entertainment performance.

The park fees page explains that NPS entrance is free; independently operated visits or services can differ. The visitor centre lists Christmas Eve and holiday exceptions, so do not assume opening on New Year's Day, Thanksgiving or Christmas. Practical information here was checked on October 19, 2026 UTC. If time is short, choose the centre followed by a manageable city or waterfront section. For a weekend visit, prepare alternative information sources before arriving at a closed visitor centre.
A Richland hotel and a documented fish main
Hampton Inn Richland/Tri-Cities is at 486 Bradley Boulevard. The operator lists complimentary hot breakfast and parking, 3 pm check-in and 11 am checkout. This Howard Amon Park-area accommodation is not inside the Hanford facilities. Check the room rate for your dates. With the visitor centre closing at 4 pm, you may want to visit before completing hotel arrangements; confirm any luggage storage with the property. Ask about the breakfast serving interval if an early activity makes that relevant to your departure.
Anthony's Richland is at 550 Columbia Point Drive. Its dinner menu lists Fresh Wild Alaska Halibut with Chive Oil at $49, chargrilled with chive oil and beurre blanc. Published hours are Sunday–Thursday 11:30 am–8 pm and Friday–Saturday 11:30 am–9 pm. Confirm seasonal availability and final orders. This is a documented main course, not a personal tasting review. Discuss fish and butter-sauce preferences before ordering. Arrange dinner without relying on an assumed exact return time from a secured-site tour that has not been confirmed.
