Build a Barberton day around Lake Anna

Barberton, Ohio lends itself to a manageable visit centered on a lakeside walk and one of the city’s chicken dinners. The lake, restaurant and longer walks in the surrounding region are separate destinations, so save individual addresses before setting off. A short morning circuit followed by a meal at the appropriate service time makes a useful first visit. If you want a longer outdoor section, consider Silver Creek Metro Park in Norton as a separate addition. The five photographs in this guide show a different regional excursion in the Cuyahoga Valley National Park area. They do not depict central Barberton or the local stops described here. Keep the final plan flexible enough for the weather, available daylight and the journey back to your accommodation.

Choose a short Lake Anna walk

The city lists Lake Anna Park at 615 West Park Avenue. Its lakeside setting is used for walking and running, and the local historical society describes an upper circuit of approximately 0.7 mile and a lower circular walk of 0.5 mile. Those distances help you select a modest outing, but allow time according to your pace, stops and the condition of the surface. Fallen leaves and wet paths can become slippery after rain, so shoes with reliable grip are useful. You can keep the walk brief and pause beside the lake rather than treating the visit as an exercise target. Read street parking signs before leaving the car. Festival parking and shuttle arrangements should not be assumed to operate on an ordinary day; check the event calendar and any temporary directions separately.

Add historical context without promising entry

Barberton Historical Society connects the name of Lake Anna with Anna Laura Barber, the daughter of Ohio Columbus Barber. That gives the lakeside city walk some historical context, but does not establish that every historic building is open for visits. The society specifically notes that the Colt Barn does not offer regular tours. If an interior visit matters to you, confirm a scheduled opportunity rather than building the day around an unannounced arrival. The city mentions concerts and the Mum Festival at Lake Anna, but these are calendar events rather than continuous attractions. Without a notice for your date, plan around the lake and a meal in town. Do not assume unrestricted access to private grounds or gardens when seeking additional historical views. None of the photographs here establishes permission to enter those places.

Make Silver Creek a separate walking section

For a longer walk, the Big Oak Area of Silver Creek Metro Park is at 5199 South Medina Line Road in Norton. It is a separate destination from central Barberton and Lake Anna. Summit Metro Parks classifies its two mile Chippewa Trail as moderate, so do not describe it as an entirely accessible, level city pavement. Begin in daylight when weather and ground conditions suit your ability, and allow enough time to return comfortably. General park access is 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. unless otherwise indicated, but those broad hours are not a recommendation for an inexperienced visitor to start an unfamiliar trail after dark. Carry water and a saved map, stay on the marked route and choose the specific trailhead in navigation. The park has several areas with different addresses.

Account for the current Towpath closure

Before adding a continuous Towpath walk or cycle connection, take account of an important work notice. Summit Metro Parks says the section between the Vanderhoof Road and Wolf Creek trailheads closed for bridge work on October 21, 2026, with the work expected to last about four weeks. Do not promise a through route across that section; choose an outing that turns back on an open stretch and follow current signs. Separate Silver Creek notices apply specifically to the disc golf course: November 14 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., and all day on December 11 and 12. Those dates do not mean the entire park is continuously closed. Read the operator’s current alerts before leaving, since work schedules and temporary access arrangements can change.

Use the correct bus branch and hotel address

Akron METRO’s Route 8 Barberton–Norton/Wooster timetable, effective August 23, 2026, provides a transport reference. It includes RKP Transit Center, Kenmore area stops and 2nd Street NW at Tuscarawas. The N branch serves Norton Plaza, while the W branch serves the Wooster Road and JR Wheel section; not every trip follows the same destination. Select the appropriate day and direction for your return. This timetable does not promise direct service to Silver Creek or to your hotel door. For regional accommodation, Hampton Inn Akron-South is at 880 Arlington Ridge East in Akron, outside central Barberton. Hilton lists check in at 3 p.m., check out at 11 a.m., and free hot breakfast, Wi Fi and parking. An airport shuttle is not available. Arrange the final connection separately.

Order a specific dinner at Belgrade Gardens

Belgrade Gardens is a real Barberton dining stop at 401 East State Street. The restaurant’s own current menu describes its Regular chicken dinner as a breast, leg, wing and back, with a choice of three sides. Fries, coleslaw and hot sauce are among the options listed. Specify the portion and side dishes you want, ask the staff about ingredients or allergens, and check the current price when ordering. An older downloadable menu is not a reliable basis for a present day price. The official contact page gives Tuesday through Saturday hours of noon to 7 p.m. and Sunday hours of 11:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. It does not list Monday service, so do not assume a Monday visit will work. Confirm final kitchen ordering times and holiday changes directly when planning a late meal.

Keep the regional images in context

The archive photographs of Boston Mill Visitor Center, Beaver Marsh, Kendall Lake, Brandywine Falls and Everett Covered Bridge illustrate a separate Cuyahoga Valley outing. They do not show Lake Anna, Silver Creek, Belgrade Gardens or the Akron hotel. If you add the national park, consult current NPS road and trail conditions as well; an open looking path in an old image is not evidence of access on your travel date. The train outside Boston Mill is not a promise that a particular service will operate. For a shorter Barberton day, complete the lake circuit and a meal at a suitable hour before returning. The useful final checks are daylight for the walk, the correct bus branch and a restaurant service window that matches the day you actually intend to visit.
