In Überlingen, a brief lakefront stroll and a walk through gardens and the higher town are different itineraries. Landungsplatz, Münsterstraße and the promenade create a compact introduction, while upper Stadtgarten, historic moat paths and the museum require a longer route with changes in level. Decide how much walking you want before combining them. A relaxed day beside the lake does not require completing the entire garden trail. With two days, put the centre and waterfront first and leave gardens or the museum for the second. This allows the lake to be enjoyed as part of the visit rather than as a background glimpsed while rushing between compulsory stops.

Station arrival, Landungsplatz and Münsterstraße
Use the DB Überlingen station page to check both arrival and return connections. A waterfront address does not mean that the station entrance and your destination are on the same level. If leaving bags at your hotel, examine the approach to that specific building first. At Landungsplatz, pause for the open lake view before turning inland towards Münsterstraße. This gives the first hour a clear contrast between the shore and the old-town streets. Small stops for shops, cafés and facade details keep the introduction from revolving around only one large monument.
On Münsterstraße, notice changes in the street width, rooflines and upper floors. The historic Reutlinger family house provides another facade within this central townscape; an older photograph of a house does not establish unrestricted interior access today. The exterior of Gasthaus Krone suggests the city's history of hospitality, but the main meal recommended here is at a different establishment. Do not confuse the photographed building and your restaurant simply because both share the same town atmosphere. Returning to Landungsplatz gives this short street walk a straightforward shape without requiring a lengthy excursion.
See the Münster and plan the uphill museum separately
The official town walk links Münster St Nikolaus with the centre and states that interior visits are possible outside service times. Begin with its exterior and the surrounding square. Enter only when the visiting arrangement permits it; a large church is not necessarily dedicated to tourist circulation throughout the day. Nearby lanes and historic facades also make a useful cultural block. If the church visit does not work at that moment, continue your own central loop rather than assuming that the whole town programme has failed.
The current Städtisches Museum page, for Krummebergstraße30, lists Tuesday–Saturday09:00–12:30 and14:00–17:00. From April through October, Sunday and public-holiday hours are10:00–15:00; Monday is closed. The midday break matters: arriving at13:00 is not a plan for continuous museum access. The institution presents city and regional collections in the former Reichlin-von-Meldegg family palace. Allow time for the uphill approach as well as the rooms. Do not assume that general visitor parking is available directly outside; the museum separately explains nearby parking structures and public transport.
Stadtgarten and Pflanzenhaus are separate places
The official Stadtgarten introduction distinguishes the lower and upper garden. Benches, the fountain, mature trees and the hardy cactus area provide a gentler beginning below, while the upper pavilion involves a rise. The steep Teufelstreppe is not necessarily the best approach for every visitor. Begin with a pause in the lower garden and make climbing higher an optional extension. Summer roses and flower photographs should not be read as a promise of continuous October bloom. Trees, paths and the changing landscape can remain the main interest even when the beds look different from a summer image.
Visitors wanting the enclosed cactus collection should go to Pflanzenhaus at Bahnhofstraße19, which is not the pavilion in upper Stadtgarten. Its current announcement states a closure for annual maintenance on26–30October2026. During those dates, plan the outdoor gardens and leave the indoor collection for another visit. Check the page's weekly timetable and the actual day. A tourism page can combine a general description with a live open/closed indicator, so a broad reference to year-round visiting should not be interpreted as unconditional access on every individual date.

Distinguish the garden trail from a short waterside pause
The Gartenkulturpfad is an approximately four-kilometre signed circuit beginning at Badgarten. It links Villengärten, Stadtgarten, the historic moats and garden spaces higher in town. Consider footwear, weather and the return journey: four kilometres here does not mean an entirely level lakefront walk. Visitors who mainly want to sit near the water can choose the Badgarten and Villengärten section and still appreciate the city's green character. Every enclosed place along a marked route should not be assumed to share the same opening hours. Local gates and maintenance notices determine what is usable on that particular day.
If adding a boat trip, verify the actual departure, landing place and return connection separately. A pier in a photograph is not proof of a continuously operating route throughout October. In wind, shorten the waterfront section and choose the museum or plant house if suitable. During the maintenance week, however, Pflanzenhaus cannot serve as the indoor fallback. The centre and shore on day one, followed by an appropriate garden circuit on day two, provides an easy structure to adapt to changing conditions instead of committing to a fixed list regardless of weather.
A main meal and genuine rooms at Seegarten
The Seegarten operator's own menu, at Seepromenade7, lists herb-fried pike-perch with freshly fried spinach and potatoes, with almond butter as an option. This is a specific substantial fish main course. Do not describe it as necessarily caught in the lake that morning: the listed species and the day's supply source are different questions. A vegetarian option combines chickpea and courgette curry with coconut cream, smoked tofu and jasmine rice. Contact the restaurant about the service, chosen dish and same-day reservations. An old dated weekly-lunch PDF should not replace the current menu.
The Hotel Seegarten room page confirms genuine accommodation at the same address. Specify the view you want when booking, since garden-facing categories are also offered and not every room should be described as lake-facing. Request a quote for your dates rather than treating an older price table as a guaranteed current rate. An overnight stay makes two separate walking blocks more comfortable. On departure day, allow for the museum's midday break or the plant house's maintenance closure, and fit luggage arrangements and the station return around the places actually available.
