Three days allow you to combine Xiamen's island heritage with time in the main city. Use the first day for arrival and the Siming area, the second for Gulangyu, and the final morning for the botanical garden. The sequence is deliberately flexible: confirm your ferry booking before arranging other reservations around it, and be prepared to swap the island and city days if weather disrupts sailings. This itinerary focuses on a few places you can enjoy without constantly changing transport. Operator information was checked on 9 October 2026; review notices for your own travel dates.
Arrival and the first transfer
Start with the airport and terminal printed on your flight booking. Gaoqi Airport's passenger information gives separate taxi and airport-bus arrangements for T3 and T4. Do not apply domestic-arrival door numbers to an international arrival; follow the signs in your actual terminal. Save your hotel's Chinese address and confirm the destination before setting off. A brand name alone may not be enough to distinguish properties in different parts of the city, so keep the complete booking address available offline.
Avoid making the arrival day depend on a tightly timed ferry departure. Collecting luggage, leaving the terminal and reaching reception are separate steps, and delays in one can affect the next. Check that your chosen map displays the correct hotel and pier before you leave your accommodation. Ask which payment methods are accepted before using a service. This guide does not promise a fixed taxi fare or transfer duration: traffic, the terminal and your destination all affect the journey. A short local walk is a more forgiving first activity.
Siming and a real accommodation option
Conrad Xiamen is a specific hotel option at 186 Yanwuxi Road in Siming District. The operator lists check-in at 15:00 and checkout at noon. Compare room categories, breakfast inclusion and cancellation conditions separately. A sea-view promotional photograph does not establish the view from every room. If the price is outside your budget, use its location as a reference when comparing other accommodation and check how each alternative connects with the route. This is an accommodation suggestion, not a booking or a guaranteed rate.

Keep the first afternoon simple, with a waterfront walk and a seated break. The Shimao twin towers form a recognisable feature of the skyline. The city photograph used here was taken from the Nanputuo area and is an archival view; do not add an unverified temple or rooftop entrance merely to reproduce its angle. After a long journey, it is more useful to conserve some energy and confirm the next morning's ferry terminal, departure time and route there. Decide on dinner after allowing for how you actually feel.
Day two: plan the Gulangyu ferry carefully
Read both the departure terminal and the island arrival terminal on your ticket. Going to whichever ferry pier looks closest on a map is not a reliable plan. Check the official Xiamen Ferry notices for your chosen service. A notice dated 6 September 2026 announced revised times on the Neicuo'ao–First Pier tourist route from 21 September. An old screenshot may therefore be out of date, and the change does not mean that all routes share one timetable.

Keep your booking record, identity document and terminal name readily available, and enter the document details required by the booking process accurately. Allow time for checks and queues between arriving at the pier and boarding. Work out the return arrangement before leaving for the island. If weather suspends services, follow the operator's instructions and use your city-day alternative rather than searching for an unofficial substitute. Avoid placing a narrow flight connection immediately after the island excursion; leaving room for disruption is one of the most useful choices in this itinerary.
Gulangyu streets and historic buildings
The UNESCO entry for Kulangsu explains its heritage through the meeting of local and international architectural traditions. Walk with attention to the street pattern, garden boundaries and building fronts rather than treating the island as a single monument. The exterior of the former American consulate can help illustrate this variety. A building's historical importance does not establish public access to its interior, however. Respect closed doors and private spaces, and add an indoor visit only when current signs or staff confirm that it is available.

Explore one area in the morning, pause for lunch, and then continue through a different group of streets. The Yu Garden photograph shows the garden on Gulangyu, which is separate from the main city's botanical garden. Include the surrounding area only as local directions and access conditions allow. Shorten the walk if steps, slopes or crowds become tiring. Shape the final part of the afternoon toward your return terminal instead of leaving the longest cross-island walk until the end. A comfortable return is more valuable than one extra photograph.
Day three: Xiamen Botanical Garden
The garden's official visitor page lists opening hours of 06:30–18:00 and recommends the main west entrance on Huyuan Road. Other gates may involve a lengthy walk to major areas, so the entrance that appears nearest on a map may not be the most convenient. Check ticket arrangements and current notices separately. Give the garden a morning rather than assuming a late arrival will allow you to cover the whole site before closing. Leave a rest period afterwards instead of stacking another demanding walk onto the same day.
Choose a few sections according to your interests and follow the marked paths. Keep out of planted beds when taking photographs and plan breaks in the shade. This main-city botanical visit and the small garden stop on Gulangyu are different experiences in different locations. If you fly out that day, determine when you must return to the hotel and collect your luggage before deciding how much of the garden to explore. The route should fit around your confirmed departure, not the other way around.
A proper evening meal
For a seated dinner, consider Coast Bar & Grill within Conrad Xiamen. The hotel's main page advertises meat options, while its dining page also describes seafood and the restaurant's 54th-floor setting. When choosing a grilled-meat main course, confirm the current cut, portion, side dishes and price from the menu. This makes dinner a full meal rather than a collection of snacks. Ask about service times and access for non-residents when reserving, and remember that staying at the hotel does not automatically include restaurant meals in your room rate.
